The effects of trauma can have a lifelong impact. Trauma can alter how the brain functions, and its signs and symptoms can vary from finding it difficult to trust and being constantly on guard, to sudden panic and intrusive, anxiety-ridden thoughts. It can also feel like you are numb and disconnected and constantly in autopilot mode. Trauma can significantly lessen your quality of life.

Trauma can be a result of a singular event or something experienced on an ongoing basis. Domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse, physical abuse, medical procedures, car accidents, and natural disasters, can all cause significant trauma in one’s life. Growing up with developmental trauma, emotional neglect with little to no support, can be just as traumatic and leave lifelong scars.

  • Before diving into the most painful moments of your life, we help you to first feel safe and grounded in your space and in your body. We do this through orientation and sensory strategies. The goal is to gain self-regulation skills to combat the relentless effects of trauma.

  • We cannot talk our way out of trauma. People oftentimes tell the same stories over and over again, but notice little to no change. We help you move through the trauma memories and symptoms by acknowledging body sensations, trapped emotions, and harmful messaging.

  • We help you allow space for both trauma and healing to be a part of your story. We assist in building understanding of the past and empowering a sense of hope for the future.
